Ukraine - Twinning

Following Russia’s attempted full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Ukraine’s HE sector is under immense pressure. Many universities have suffered damage, with students and staff having been displaced. While many male students and academics remain in Ukraine to fight, many women and international members of the academic community have either relocated to western parts of the country or left Ukraine entirely.

In an effort to help Ukrainian universities, CCG, together with Universities UK, launched the Twinning Initiative. The concept is simple: CCG matches a Ukrainian university to an international partner of a similar size and profile and facilitates the discussion between the institutions to provide tailored support to the Ukrainian counterpart.

The collaboration between universities takes different forms, shaped by the needs and priorities of both partners. Support can span various areas, including teaching and learning, research, capacity building, and student engagement. Support may involve mobility programmes, access to academic resources, scholarships for short-term research, and initiatives to ensure education quality during the recovery period. Universities may also work together on fundraising efforts, cultural and scientific events, and joint research projects. The approach remains flexible, ensuring that each university receives the support most relevant to its situation while strengthening international cooperation.

More information on the scheme you can find on the Twinning website.
