Three Years of Resilience: UK Universities' Unwavering Support for Ukraine - February 2025

Today marks the three years since Russia's barbaric full-scale invasion of Ukraine - a stark reminder of the immense challenges and suffering endured by the Ukrainian people. The devastation is profound, leaving behind unimaginable destruction for so many.

On this day, it is also important to note the incredible response of UK universities, and the work of our Twinning team.

Twinning: Twinning has generated over £70 million of support to Ukrainian universities.

Twins: As of today, there are 105 partnerships between British and Ukrainian institutions established within the Twinning initiative. The main priority now is to ensure that the institutions create long-term cooperation plans. Currently, over 50 pairs have crated long-term plans for the next 3-5 years.

Generators: Thanks to the support of UK universities and private donor's, 8 generators have installed in universities across Poltava, Kyiv, Zaporizhzhya, Mykolaiv, Ostroh, Lubny and Uzhhorod. Funding has been secured for up to 20 generators, and the work to secure more continues through the Generators4Ukraine campaign.

Dual Degree programmes: At the moment, 10 Dual Degree programmes have been developed between 10 UK and 10 Ukrainian universities. Currently, there are almost 300 students enrolled in the programmes, with plans to admit 200 students in 2025. The Dual Degree Twinning initiative has received funding for this academic year and 2026-2027 and will ensure the sustainability of the existing programmes, aimed at training professionals ready to contribute to Ukraine's post-war recovery.

COIL training session: Last year, two 4-week COIL training webinar series organised and delivered by The Hague University of Applied Sciences, jointly with Cormack Consultancy Group in support of the Twinning Initiative. COIL course has been delivered to 48 Ukrainian participants. The next webinar series is organised to start on 27th March, 3pm UA time.

EU Funding: Our team has delivered training to Ukrainian universities on EU funding. This training has been delivered in partnership with the Ukrainian Ministry of Education and Science.

English4Ukraine: Mariupol State University, in collaboration with Reallyenglish, has launched a new platform designed to enhance English language skills at Ukrainian universities. The project has been successfully operating for 6 months now, with 97 Ukrainian institutions participating, a total of 22,387 users and growing each month.

We would like to thank all the universities involved, as well as supporters and stakeholders: Universities UK International, FCDO, Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, The Fund of the President of Ukraine for Education and Science, Reallyenglish.com Limited, Oxford International Education Group, Mosaik Education, Wiley, FutureLearn, Virtual Internships, Research England, XTX Market and all others who have made Twinning projects possible.

CCG will continue to always stand with Ukraine. Slava Ukraine!
